BONNARD Les Toilettes de Marthe
This summer, the Bonnard Museum reveals the intimacy of a gaze: Bonnard’s gaze upon Marthe, the light, and the quiet moments of everyday life.
Through a unique dual exhibition, discover the intimate scenes of Marthe at her dressing table and the distinctive world of the painter’s studio.
BONNARD – LES TOILETTES DE MARTHE explores one of the most sensitive themes in the painter’s work: women at their dressing tables. Paintings, drawings and works on paper reveal the delicacy with which Bonnard observes everyday gestures, the presence of the body and the subtle interplay of light and colour.
Echoing this, a special focus on L’ATELIER AU MIMOSA, on loan from the Centre Pompidou – Musée national d’art moderne, highlights the painter’s studio as a space of creation and memory, straddling the boundary between interior and landscape.
The exhibition is enhanced by a bespoke olfactory experience, inviting visitors to experience the paintings in a new way, bridging the gap between sight and sensation.
